I have developed an interest in certain "open/free information" projects. Personally, I would like to become involved in the development and disemination of open mathematics textbooks. Naturally, I see other similar projects as having great value as well, though I have less to contribute. Below are some links to certain initiatives.
- ❧ Open Knowledge Foundation - Protecting and promoting open knowledge.
- ❧ WikiBooks - WikiBooks project from the makers of Wikipedia. Summary: pretty crappy content and the software isn't well suited for textbook development. However, it's a good start.
- ❧ FreeOurData - A Guardian Technology initiative protesting government regulation on publicly produced data. If our taxes are used to collect information, it should be made publicly available so everyone can benefit.
- ❧ California Open Source Textbook Project - Developing open textbooks for K-12 in partnership with WikiBooks and using the Creative Commons licence.
